"Help Marshall Grab Cancer By The Balls!!"

Marshall was diagnosed in early Feb. 2009 with Bone Cancer (Osteogenic Sarcoma), a week before his 18th Birthday. The tumor is in his left leg, just above the knee. He is a patient of University of Penn Hospital in Philadelphia. His treatment plan is as follows: Marshall will go through two(2) rounds (21 day cycle) of Chemotherapy treatments. His first round of Chemo took place the week of Feb 16th. He lost quite a bit of weight from his first round. His next round starts in early March. After the 2 rounds of Chemo, his doctors will decide what's steps to take next. Eventually, he will have surgery to remove the tumor, and the bones that it has affected. Hopefully, with new surgical procedures, he will have limb saving surgery that will spare him from having his leg amputated. More Chemotherapy will follow the surgery.

Marshall was scheduled to go on his Senior class trip the first week of March, but is not feeling well enough to go. He has not been to school since starting the Chemo, but has much support from visitors that stop by the house and say hello. Osteogenic Sarcoma is the 6th leading cancer in children under age 15. Osteogenic Sarcoma affects 400 children under age 20 and 500 adults (most between the ages of 15-30) every year in the USA. This is the same form of cancer that Karli Stasi had.Since he will be completing round 2 of Chemo during the week of the Fairgrounds race, I'm not sure that he will be able to make it out to the race. The first round of Chemo really took its toll on him. He was completely exhausted. His surgery MAY possibly be in April, but I will keep you posted on that.

He is the son of Dave and Sue Smith of Millville, NJ. Nephew of Craig and Joann Smith, cousin of Kyle and Kourtney. He is a Senior at Millville Senior High School.Thank You from the bottom of our hearts for keeping him in your prayers. If you have met him at a race (he helped out at the Fairgrounds and Irish Valley), then you know what a good kid he is.

The picture of him with Kyle and Kourtney and his sister Michelle was taken in Spring 2007 in Berlin, Germany during a family trip. His dogs name is Rusty, and the haircut was done at the Millville Firehouse by Millville Fire Fighters Keith Mitchell and Patrick Wettstein, one day prior to the start of his Chemo. Marshall's dad (Dave) is also a Millville Fire Fighter.
