THEE ALMIGHTY PECOMETH NEOC
Hey NEOC! Wow! What an awesome race that was. Great track, great racing, great weather, great location. Doesn’t get any better than that. Saturday I started the long haul from my house to Centreville, Maryland around noon. Arriving just in time for the pee-wee race, I got to see some great battles on a 2 ½ mile course consisting of fields and some woods. After 1 hour, Sal Cusimano took the overall finishing just 0:02 seconds ahead of second place, Ryan Hall. Thumper class winner Malcolm Hill rounded out the top three overall.
Saturday evening I walked the youth course to see what I was up against Sunday morning. Just like the pee-wee course, some field sections and a whole lot of woods were in store for the race.  The next mornin’ I tried to get myself as pumped up and ready to go as I coul d before that flag dropped. I was doing jumping jacks, pushups; sit ups, playing soccer, jumping up and down, whatever it took to get me ready for that race. I knew it would be key to get the hole shot in this race, or else you’d be left behind in the dust, lookin ’ for the entrance to the woods. Good thing I got a pretty-good start because I was not in the mood for eating dust already at 8:30 in the morning! Speaking of hole shots, Noel got great videos from the race. Check ‘em out if you haven’t yet! The NEOC camera crew got some good pictures, and, as always, Tim Denis got great shots of everyone. Check them out on his website at www.timdphoto.com .  Back to the race; on lap 1 I came through the pine section in the woods, and I was so surprised at how slippery the trail was. Between the mud and the slippery pine needles all over the ground, I felt like I was riding on ice without studded tires! That was definitely the toughest part of the track for me. I think I crashed at least 5 times just in that section! After 1 ½ hours of racing, Tanner Thomas got to the checkers first to take the overall win and Ryan Clair finished a close second, with myself taking third and  Jeff Hall finishing fourth overall.  12-15 100 class winner Anthony Venuto rounded out the top five.

The main event was once again a race to watch. This time, Ryan Rodgers took the overall, with his brother finishing right behind him in second. Shane Hufford finished third overall. This kid is truly phenomenal; he is only 14 years old and is already AA adult rider.
I caught up with Kenny Tenner after the race to get his thoughts…

Q- Hey Kenny. I saw you up at Thee Almighty Pecometh. How did you do in that race?
A- "I finished 2nd. I got the hole shot than finished 2nd ."
Q-Wow. That’s great. It’s gotta feel good finishing 2nd in just your first real race in the main event!
A- "Yeah! It feels real good. I finished 1st at round one but got d-qued because I raced the youth too. At that point I wasn’t sure if I was too big for the 105 and should move up to the main event yet.
Q- Ok. I’m sure it had to be a hard decision. Moving up to the main event or staying in the youth and try to win a AA championship.
A- "Yeah. It was very hard. I just didn’t want to sell the 105 haha. I wanted the AA youth championship really badly with all of the fast riders in that class. But I’m just too tall.
Q-Yeah, that is a tough decision.  Unfortunately your height made you move20up to a big bike quicker than you were planning.  But now that you are racing adult do you have any new goals for the season?
A-"Yeah, for sure. To win as many races as I can and try for another championship."
Q-Back to the race- How were the conditions and what was the track like?
A-"I liked it a lot. I like tracks that I have never ridden before. It just started to get very rough at the end of the race."
Q-  So what race are you most looking forward to on this year’s NEOC circuit?
A- "The Iceman at Nick Davis’ place for sure. But I enjoy all of the races."
Q-Yeah, that sounds like it’s going to be a fun track! Well good luck this season. Hope to see you at Irish Valley.
A-  ; "Thanks a lot. I’m sure I’ll see you around. Good luck this season!"
Well that wraps things up for this race. Hope to see everyone at Irish Valley. DON’T FORGET!! Race teams must be signed up and finalized BEFORE the Irish Valley!!!
Ride Hard!

NEOC- Cumberland County Fairgrounds

          Hey Guys!

First off, I would like to talk about some big news in the motorcycling world. On February 7th, freestyle rider Jeremy Lusk suffered a devastating crash competing in an event in Costa Rica. Lusk under-rotated a flip, causing his front wheel to strike the landing and it ejected him head-first off the bike. He sustained head injuries, severe brain damage and a possible spinal cord injury. Jeremy Lusk died three days later, on February 10, 2009. He had several huge career accomplishments including 3 X-Games medals and finishing on the podium in both the Red Bull X-Fighters and AST Dew Tour events.  God Speed Jeremy. You will be dearly missed. The NEOC crew is giving away a neck brace to a youth and adult racer at every race. I think this is great because protection is a priority and should be taken seriously.

Also, this month, the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC ), responded to the threats caused by lead found in children's toys (mostly from China) has implemented broad sweeping product requirements that will make it illegal to sell motorcycles & ATVs targeted to those age 12 and under. Manufacturers, parents, and us racers know that we don’t chew, like, or ingest any part of our motorcycle/s or ATVs!  But because of lead used in the paint, plastics, etc., this law has been put into place. Motorcycle enthusiasts are trying hard to turn this around, and you can help too. Either of the following will help in saving the future of youth racing.  Visit www.petitionspot.com/petitions/thumpertalk  , or http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/rapidresponse.asp , sign your name, and a letter will be sent to the government letting them know how you feel about this issue. Also, you can write a letter to the president letting him know how you feel about this. Here is the address…The White House

          Now on to the races…

On March 14 and 15, the 2009 racing season kicked off at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds. The weather was perfect and the track in excellent shape. Some new things were added to the fairgrounds this year, including a new whoop section, and a double before the woods section. Once again, this track offered a bit of everything. Sunday morning I was up bright and early getting ready for the 8:30 youth race. I was pumped and ready to go for the first race of the year, as I'm sure many others were also. I really loved the track and had a blast jumping the new double and jumping through the whoop section. Brian and Noel and the rest of the NEOC crew did a great job setting up the track and working hard to make everything possible. Tim Dennis did a great job with the photos, and he has really good shots of everyone! He also has a cool new setup @ the races- - be sure to check it out sometime! Or check out his web site- www.timdphoto.com

Alright, well the excitement and craziness of the first race of the season is all over with, and it is time to move on and get prepared for round 2. Thee Almighty Pecometh in Centreville, Maryland will host the next race, and it sounds like it’s gonna be a great one. With around 6 miles of never before ridden trails, what isn't there to like?! Well, I have to get going, so hopefully I will see you all there, April 4 th and 5 th.  Cya!

Congrats to Jerod stoner for winning the adult overall, Kyle Mcdonald for winning the youth overall, and Anthony Giglio for taking the pee-wee overall.
